The National Police Association Calls Upon the D.C. Council to pass the Addressing Crime Trends (ACT) Now Amendment Act of 2023

(Indianapolis) December 19, 2023 – The National Police Association announced its support today for the Washington D.C., Addressing Crime Trends (ACT) Now Amendment Act of 2023. The anti-crime package seeks to fight organized retail theft, stop loitering that facilitates open-air drug markets, rolls back some recently enacted anti-policing restrictions, and allows an additional charge against criminals who wear masks in the commission of crimes.

Homicides in D.C. are up 33 percent compared to last year, robberies have increased 70 percent and total violent crime has risen 41 percent. All crime is up 27 percent in 2023. This common sense package of reforms won’t solve all the law enforcement handicaps in D.C. but they are a start. The NPA’s written testimony submitted to the D.C. Council can be read here.

The National Police Association (NPA) is a 501(c)3 Educational/Advocacy non-profit organization. For additional information visit NationalPolice.org.
