Village of Coal City, IL PD awarded National Police Association grant

The National Police Association has awarded the Coal City, IL PD a grant in support of the department’s new chaplaincy program.

The Coal City Police Department Chaplaincy Program will create a partnership within the Village of Coal City between the citizens of Coal City, the faith based leaders of Coal City, and the members of the Coal City Police Department. 

The purpose of the Coal City Police Department Chaplaincy Program is to have the faith based leaders of the Village of Coal City work jointly with the members of the Coal City Police Department during a time of crisis or other emergency.  The Coal City Police Department Chaplaincy Program will help identify and assess various critical situations.  The Coal City Police Department Chaplaincy Program will then intervene to calm the stress, anxiety, or grief of any member of the Village of Coal City or the Coal City Police Department and diminish any adverse impact on the mental health of those involved.

The Coal City Police Department currently 14 sworn personnel (Chief to entry level officer) with the Village of Coal City exceeding a populous of 5,500. The Coal City Chaplaincy Program will partner with the Coal City Police Department Elderly Service Program to provide an impassioned support system for the seniors within the Village of Coal City. This partnership will provide amenity, guidance, and consultation for the Village of Coal City’s seniors as well as all others in need.

The Coal City Chaplaincy Program will ensure that the citizens, seniors, and Law Enforcement personnel within the Village of Coal City will receive the appropriate care in their time of need with no individual left behind.
