The Topeka, KS Police Department’s Explorer Program Awarded Grant by the National Police Association

Indianapolis – June 25, 2024. The National Police Association announced today it has awarded the Topeka, KS Police Department’s Explorer Program a $1000.00 grant.

TPD Law Enforcement Explorer Post #7721 is an explorer program associated with the Boy Scouts of America Exploring program and sponsored by the Topeka Police Department. Post 7721 started in 1968 and offers young adults an opportunity to explore what a career in law enforcement looks like while learning valuable life skills.

Explorers attend regularly scheduled meetings, provide security and traffic control for events like Fiesta Topeka, Spirit of Kansas Blues Fest (4th of July), dignitary visits, and other public events and parades. Explorers who are 16 or older may qualify to participate in TPD’s ride-along program with TPD law enforcement officers. Explorers also attend competitions where they compete against explorer posts from around the U.S. in law enforcement events. Occasionally, explorers may be called to assist in searches for evidence, missing persons, victims of crimes, and natural disasters.

The grant will help pay for yearly charter fees, travel costs, registration fees for competition events, and scholarships to cover out-of-pocket expenses the explorers might encounter.

The National Police Association (NPA) is a 501(c)3 Educational/Advocacy non-profit organization. For additional information visit NationalPolice.org.
